Going to give this a shot again. Also two weeks left at my current job, got a promotion that starts after we get back from Disneyworld. Looking forward to the changes, but part of the change is an hour commute down and back.

Going to look back over the blog from the last year+ worth of data and see if I can pinpoint where I was most successful and try to recapture that.

Hope you’ve been well, sorry for another couple week disappearing act.

Weekday bike ride!

Great weather (apparently the last day of good weather for a week), and Tiffany off today led to a bike ride. Got going, and got to the turn for my short loop, and said “Nah! Let’s go big!”

11.10 miles, 45:29 total, 4:06 per mile. Much closer to my old pace, it was a great ride really enjoyed it, and it reminded me how much I really enjoyed throwing on a podcast and getting out for a nice long bike ride. Also burned 523 calories which was nice.

Weekly weigh-in

Didn’t have a perfect week exercise or with the diet, so I wasn’t expecting much.

Last week I was 206.8 this week 205.6. Nice 1.2 lbs loss. Keep making progress.

It's nice...quick jump on the bike!

Beautiful day out, so for the first time in a few weeks getting a bike ride in was reasonable. Plus less pounding on my knees is very much appreciated these days.

7.02 miles, 33:24 total, 4:46 per mile, 282 calories burned. Come on nicer weather, I can’t wait to do this more often.

This is what 3am looks like?

Up at 3 to watch opening day, Seattle Mariners vs Oakland A’s live from Japan.

Daily Wrap: C210k Week 2 Day 1

Went out at 10 for my run, but snuck it in! Week 2 Day 1 of C210k.

5 Minute Warmup walk

Run 1 minute

Walk 4 minutes

repeat run walk 9 times

5 minute cool down walk

3.71 Miles, 54:48 468 Calories burned

Food was back in line after getting a little out of line over the weekend. PS the scale doesn’t care that you are kid free for the evening, if you eat like crap it will punish you!

Breakfast: Turkey Delight Sandwhich, Black Itallian Roast Coffee

Lunch: Turkey and Cheddar Dry on Dave’s killer bread, Pear (I always eat my sandwhiches btw, this isn’t a sacrifice)

Snack: Black Italian Roast Coffee, Handful Peanut Butter Pretzels

Dinner: Chicken Tortilla Soup

Total Calories consumed 1183, burned 468, net 715, way below goal. Um let’s say I’m zig zaging and making up for way too many calories on Saturday, and a few too many calories on Sunday.

May as well get a weight update in as well. Last week I was 209.8, this week 206.8. Still undoing the damage from injury and pitty, but progress is always nice to see.

Speaking of injuries, Tony over at http://lifechangeneededaisle3.tumblr.com/ has been a big inspiration to me. He just came down with an injury derailing some of his upcoming plans and I know that knocked me on my butt a bit as well when I realized a marathon just wasn’t in my future (at least right now?). Tony is a really good guy, if you don’t follow him give him a look, and let him know you are rooting for him. Good luck Tony!

C210k Week 1 Day 3

2.99 Miles in 46:59 Today, 383 calories. Finishing up week 1:

My phone is dead from playing a bit too much draw something after dinner. That had my food log for the day on it, I do know I was a bit under calories for the day.

Breakfast: Turkey Delight Breakfast sandwhich, coffee w/ skim milk

Lunch: Turkey and Cheddar on good ol’ Dave’s killer bread, pear

Snack: Some more evil trader joe cookies, coffee w/skim milk

Dinner: Chicken Tortilla soup

I’m secretly really enjoy the snow, other than the driving part of it. Kinda hope it sticks around till after I get off tomorrow.

Ok, no bike ride today.

Ok, no bike ride today.

Daily Wrap

Week 1 Day 2 of C210K

Another pretty simple day:
5 Minute warmup walk
30 second run
4:30 walk
Repeat run walk 8 times
5 minute cool down walk

2.97 miles 46:56

Food was pretty good (if similar to yesterday)

Breakfast: Italian roast Coffee w/ splash of skim milk, Turkey Delight breakfast sandwich

Lunch: Turkey and Cheddar Dry Sandwich on Dave’s killer bread, pear

Snack: Trader Joes Cookie Crisps (eh not the best choice, but 150 calories), Italian roast coffee w/ splash of skim milk

Dinner: Chicken Burritos, water

Total calories consumed 1665, burned 383, net 1282, 38 below goal.

Daily Wrap

Stepped on the scale to get a restart weight. 209.8….. Ouch.

But, uh as to today it went well.

Breakfast: Italian Roast coffee w/ splash of skim milk, Delight Turkey Sandwich

Lunch: Peppered Turkey and Cheddar sandwich dry on Dave’s Killer Bread, Pear

Snack: Some Almonds, More Italian Roast Coffee w/ splash of Milk

Dinner: Chicken Fettucini, water

Total Calories, 1334, 14 above goal.

I also rethought C210k and I’m going to change the days. I’m going to do Sunday Tuesday Thursday for C210k. I’ll go late at night on Tuesdays and Thursdays after Nathan’s swim lessons, and then that should free up Wednesday, Friday, Saturday for biking when I can get some free time during daylight hours. Weather is still pretty cold and wet, but at least it’s staying light later.

Yes, this marks the return of my rambling or sometimes very brief daily wrap up posts.

C210k Week 1 Day 1

Alright, lets get back on the horse. Start off nice and easy. Couch 2 10k Week 1 Day 1.

Really Simple day.

5 Minute Warmup walk

Run 30 seconds

Walk 4:30

Repeat Run walk 7 times

5 minute Cool down walk

Did 2.55 miles in 40:01. 320 calories burnt. Felt pretty good, sprinted the 30 second intervals hard and that felt nice.

I’m going to be doing the full C210K program, 13 weeks long, 3 times a week. I plan on Sunday, Wednesday, Friday. Getting food back on track as well.

P.S. Anyone on Path? I really love the way it looks, but I don’t know anyone on it. If you’d like to connect let me know. I’m syncing my nike runs over there as well.

Checking in

I’m struggling greatly with fitness and diet, and that is the reason for the lack of updates. Sorry about that. Whenever I build up mileage running to even a 3 mile run my right knee hurts for days, and swells up a bit. The suggestion of rest it, stretch it, then build slowly just isn’t working.

So what I need to do is bike and swim. Biking I can only do on the weekends right now, its too late when my wife gets off for me to hit the road, but after day light savings time hits I should be able to get going on that more. Which is great, I enjoy it more than running anyways. I also need to get back to going to the pool at least one day a week.

I’ve also had some other stresses going on. Work is what it is, a constant frustration. I’m at a loss as to what I want to do, but I am looking to see if there is other opportunities out there. I’m also still chew free, but throwing down nicotine lozenges a couple times a day. The lack of exercise has lead to me not caring about what I eat.

Last summer I hit a low of 183.8, I’m now 20+ over that. That’s a lot of progress to throw away. I’ve got to get going again.

Late night 2am posting. That’s how this whole blog started off, maybe this can be the first entry to chapter 2.

Peddle Peddle Peddle

My parents came and whisked away Nathan for the night, so I jumped on the bike and knocked out a little 6.42 mile ride in 26:48, 4:11 per mile average. Legs felt stiff and dead about half way through.

Now though, since we are kid free for the night we’re taking the opportunity to celebrate Valentine’s day a little early and head out for dinner and a movie. Have fun!

You used to comment and like my posts. No you don't, what's going on? Tumblr is a two way street....

First of all, thanks for your question. Seriously, it is something I should answer.

A. The canned “I’m really busy lately” excuse. I know others are busier than me and still make the time to interact, but regardless I am really busy lately. Tiffany and I both working full time, raising an almost 4 year old, twice a week swim classes for him, trying to get exercise in, work is busy. Yep it gets a little busy! Others can do it, and hats off to the them it is amazing.

Now the other reason, and I don’t know how to say this without kind of being, I don’t know, a jerk I guess? I’m jealous. Or I should say when I read through tumblr lately I get jealous, and it doesn’t put me in the best place.

Last year at this time I would read on tumblr and see people doing incredible things and I’d think about doing them one day, and get inspired. Or I’d read about other people in my spot starting out, and we’d both be making progress doing new achievements, it was a lot of fun!

Now I read through tumblr, and I see people doing amazing things and think about how my knee crumbled at the thought of a half marathon, or I see people training for a marathon right after my phone reminds me that I should be doing a 9 mile pace run today to be on pace for the marathon I wanted to do this spring. Or I see people that were struggling along at the same point of C25K as me last year, and they are crushing it just way beyond where I am at this point.

All that kind of sucks to read, and turns me into a jealous hater. Which I really don’t want to be. So right now I’m not really reading my dashboard. Is that fair? No. Are the people who followed me, and interacted with me last year, getting what they deserve? No. I know that. I’m not proud of it. But, it is what it is right now. I really really really appreciate the people who still like and comment on my posts, they are awesome, and as I work back into a state where I can read their accomplishments without being jealous I’ll give them my full support.

For now, all I can do is say Thank You. I appreciate your support. I hope to give it back to you one day. I hope you can be understanding for now, no matter how petty, silly, and unfair I am being.

-Josh

Run, walk, run, walk, run

Ran a mile, walked half a mile, ran a mile, walked half a mile, ran .44 miles. 3.44 miles, 44:49.

Was bumming so perspective, a year ago I did 2.73 miles in 45:09, and weighed 20 lbs more than I do today. I was happy about both of those things. Yes, I’d like to be further along than I am, but as long as I get out of this rut and get going I’m fine. Make progress, not excuses.

Run!

Snuck in a quick run before swim lessons tonight. Tiffany has a new schedule where she gets off an hour earlier Tues-Fri which makes working on out on swim lesson days a little easier.

So tonight I did 3.42 miles, alternating a half mile run with a half mile walk. 48:10 overall. Legs still tighten up on the runs and bike rides, but no pain, still stick with run walk combos for now.

Also Calorie tracking starts tomorrow. Weighed in at 201.2 today, ouch…

Another nice day

Jumped in the bike again pre-super bowl. 6.97 miles, 28:55, 4:09 per mile. Quads have a nice pump right now.

Now it’s time for the super bowl, don’t really care about either team so I’m pulling for some nice plays by a couple of my favorite former Ducks, Spencer Paysinger and Patrick Chung. Either way it goes one of them will get a ring.

Nice day... Jump on the bike

Another day back being active. Sun was shining, it was a little cold but nice for February, calm and no wind, so I jumped on the bike and did a nice little 7.1 mile bike ride. Total time 28:29, 4:01 per mile, little slower than before the break, but pretty close!

Good week of staying active after a couple month practically total shut down. 2 runs, with 3 miles of running, 1.8 miles of walking, 1 bike ride of 7.1 miles, 3 days of activity. Feeling good, got to keep it up!
